Did the gangs make plan last night? If they didn’t, why not, and what does it do to the program?
Every roadmaster and division engineer carries that question into the morning call. RailHead puts the answer on one screen.

The night report gets written twice
The window closes, the machines tie down, and the foreman still owes the night. Ties in against plan. Ramp-up. Track time asked for and track time given. Authorities, work limits, overtime, and the reason the count came up short. It leaves the gang as a text, a phone call, a photo of a notebook page or a spreadsheet, and somebody up the line types it again before the division sees it.
By the time the capital program has a number, it is a day old and has been through two pairs of hands.
What RailHead doesFill the Board once. It writes the night report.
RailHead is the nightly command tool for mechanized maintenance-of-way production gangs, tie, surfacing and yard tie, and for the capital program above them. The foreman fills the Board once a shift. The division sees every gang on one screen.
- Board. The gang’s night on one sheet: the three numbers against goal (ties per window hour, ramp-up minutes, peak per hour), production and project to date, next-day prep, track time planned against actual, work limits, and track authorities with Form B.
- Report. The night report, written from the Board: production against plan with the reason, project pace, labor and cost, window and track time. One tap copies it, ready for wherever the report goes today.
- Division. Every gang on one screen: who reported, who is on or ahead of plan, ties behind for the year, and the exceptions to watch. It compiles the division report from the gangs’ nights.
- Trends. Production by gang over the week, month, quarter or season, against plan, with the best day and the days at or above plan.
- History. The season’s reports by date and by gang, with a download to spreadsheet (CSV).
- Library. Twenty-six reference entries drawn from 49 CFR Part 213, maintenance-of-way rules and production gang practice, searchable and readable with no signal.
- Gang comms. Authority, switch status, hazards and plan changes posted to the gang, the important ones flagged, with the roster and a call link for every lead.
It installs on a phone from the browser and runs full screen, dark, for night work.
From the demoPrairie Star Division

Prairie Star Division is fictitious. Every gang, subdivision, yard, name and figure in the demo is invented for the demo.
Where it standsDemo by request. Paid pilots with railroads.
RailHead is available as a demo by request, and for paid pilots with railroads. Work is saved on the device.
Ask, and we’ll arrange access. Entries stay in the browser on the device they were made on, through a reload or a restart. A pilot is scoped with the railroad, gang by gang.
Career railroaders
RailHead is a SteelWheels.Co product, built by a firm of career railroaders for the people who run production gangs and answer for the program. The record is on the main page, under Track Record and About.
